A unique CUMC opportunity –
       Spread the gift of reading…
      ONE Child at a Time.

The Children’s Literacy Center program, based in Colorado Springs, offers one-to-one tutoring for students reading below grade level at NO COST TO FAMILIES!   A child is matched with community volunteers trained in Children’s Literacy Center Peak Reader® Program. Peak Reader® is a proactive research-based curriculum and provides structured tutoring, high-quality training and supportive supervision. It’s a solution with an unmatched success rate! Children’s Literacy Center program teaches phonetic skills and learning strategies appropriate for all elementary reading programs. Each lesson plan provides step-by-step instructions allowing anyone, from classroom volunteers to reading teachers, to work with a student without preparation. Because of its accessibility, Children’s Literacy Center reading curriculum fits well in any school reading group, one-to-one instruction, or community learning center.
Get Involved!  Are you 14 years of age or older? You can make a lasting difference in the life of a child and in the life of your community.  Join the Calvary Children’s Literacy Center site as a tutor and be a part of helping a student master the skill of reading.

Interested in tutoring now or being a substitute tutor?   It is just a two hour a week commitment for twelve weeks.

It’s Easy!  Children’s Literacy Center experienced staff will train you to use Children’s Literacy Center fun award winning Peak Reader® curriculum.  Watch your student learn and grow through reading stories, playing word games, and unlocking the meaning of words. You will give your Literacy Center student the skills to succeed for the rest of their life.

Fall semester at the CUMC site will begin on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.  The sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm – 6pm.   The semester will run 12 weeks through December 12, 2014.  No tutoring 21st and 23rd of November, due to Thanksgiving.
