What is the Chicago Mission Team?
The Chicago Mission Team travels to Chicago every June to support the work and people who are a part of Frank Ward's "church without walls".
When our team goes out into the community of uptown Chicago, we represent the Calvary family. We are the hearts and hands of the members of the Calvary UMC congregation. Rev. Ward, (Frank, as we know him), does an amazing job as a servant of God among seniors, and homeless men and women in uptown Chicago.
We receive and use all of Calvary's contributions to accomplish most of our activities. We serve a hot breakfast 4 to 5 days to about 45 homeless women whose only meal often is the breakfast that is served to them after an evening in the shelter of the Uptown Baptist Church. We work in the neighborhood on projects that our energy, materials and know-how will allow us to reach out and make life better for many diverse people. In addition, we walk very closely with about 40 seniors with whom we have ongoing friendships since 1999. For a group of seniors who seldom get to a park, or a banquet, or outside of a few square cement blocks in Chicago, we will give our finest bread, and join hands with them sharing a bigger picture of God's world.
